Step one: opening a webpage

The first thing you need to do is to open the webpage containing the video or audio you want to download in iTubeX.

The address bar in iTubeX (this may look familiar as it looks the same in Safari).

To open a webpage, use one of the following options:

  • If you have opened the page containing the video or audio you want to download in an external browser, copy the address from that browser's address bar and paste it in iTubeX's address bar. Then hit Return.

Note that iTubeX ships with a Safari Extension and Bookmarklet, which you can use to easily open a page in iTubeX from within an external browser.
  • Use iTubeX's built-in browser to browse to the page containing the video or audio you want to download.

Step two: downloading the video or audio

After opening the page containing the video or audio you want to download, the next step is to start the download.

If you click the orange button, a menu with the options 'Resume' and 'Cancel will appear. Clicking the search loupe will reveal the file in Finder.

To start downloading the video or audio, follow these steps:

  • Make sure that the video or audio is playing.
  • Click the download button or the 'Download' menu in the menu bar.
  • Click an option in the menu that appears.
  • If the quality selection window appears, select which resolution/format you want to download and click 'Choose'.
  • Enter a name for the file, choose where you want iTubeX to download the file to and click 'Download'.
  • The progress window will now appear, showing you the actual progress of the download(s).
  • Wait for the message to pop-up that tells you that all downloads are finished.

Step three: converting the downloaded video or audio

After the video or audio has been downloaded, you can - but don't have to, of course - convert the downloaded file to another filetype.

Note that if you want to convert .flv files, you need to install the free QuickTime plugin called Perian. You can download Perian here.

  • When you are ready, click 'Save' to start converting the file.
