Saving Settings

Metronome will always remember all the various settings it had when you quit it, and that will suit most people well. But you can also save and re-load sets of settings so you don't have to manually redo favoured settings after you've changed them.

Just go to the 'Settings' menu and select 'Save Current Settings...' (or type Command-S). Type in a name for the current settings, click 'Save', and they will be saved ready to be re-loaded anytime by using the 'Load Saved Settings...' item in the 'Settings' menu.

You don't need to choose a place on your file system to save the settings files. Metronome takes care of all that for you. You can use any name to save the settings, including names with slashes (/) and colons (:) in them.

Metronome's current settings are shown in the top half of the window. These are the settings available to save. The 'Refresh' button allows you to update the settings to be saved if you make any changes to Metronome while the Save Settings window is open.

You can choose which settings to save by using the checkboxes in the middle of the Save Settings window.

Loading Saved Settings

To use a saved setting, open the Load Settings window via the 'Settings' menu (or Command-L).

Selecting an item from the list labelled 'Saved Settings' on the left of the window will show it's contents on the right of the window. Press the 'Load' button, or double-click the item in the list, and all those settings shown will be loaded into Metronome. Any settings not in the set which you just loaded will be left unchanged in Metronome.

Pressing the 'Delete' button when a saved setting is selected will move that settings file to the trash.

You can prevent accidentally deleting a saved settings file by selecting it in the list and clicking the 'locked' checkbox. To unlock, just click the checkbox. Then you can delete it.

You can drag your saved settings in the list to change the order in which they are displayed.

Adding to Favourites

Any of the saved Settings can be added to the Favourites section of the Settings menu for quick access without having to open the Load Settings window. Select the saved Settings you want to add to Favourites in the Load Settings window, then either click the button labelled "Add Selection to Favourites" or choose "Add Selection to Favourites" in the Settings menu (keyboard shortcut Command-F).

Whenever a new Favourite is added to the menu it automatically gets a keyboard shortcut of Command-(number of Favourite in the list). For example, if you have no Favourites, the first one you add will have the keyboard shortcut Command-1, the second Command-2, and so on. The 10th will have the keyboard shortcut of Command-0. Any Favourites after the tenth will have no assigned keyboard shortcut, however, you can always use Mac OS X's System Preferences Keyboard and Mouse: Keyboard Shortcuts panel to set the shortcut to whatever you want. See Mac Help for details.

Removing Favourites

Remove all your current Favourites by choosing "Clear Favourites" from the bottom of the "Settings" menu. To remove only one Favourite, open the Load Settings window and choose the setting you want to remove from the list. The "Add Selection to Favourites" button becomes a "Remove From Favourites" button, and the "Add Selection to Favourites" menu item in the Settings menu becomes a "Remove From Favourites" menu item. Click the button or choose the menu item to remove the selected settings from the Favourites in the menu.

Whenever a Favourites item is created, by default the file it represents will be locked. When a Favourites item is removed, the setting file it represents will be set back to whatever locked state it was in when the Favourite was first created.

Removing a Favourite from the Settings menu only removes the menu item. The saved Settings file it loads remains untouched in the Load Settings window.
