Understanding The SpamJadoo Difference

If you haven't already done so, please take a moment to read the Getting Started Users Guide in the User Documentation section.  Here is a quick link to that Getting Started Guide.

Your understanding of how SpamJadoo works will be extremely important to you as a Domain Admin.  Make sure you are as aware as possible what the overall user experience will be like for each SpamJadoo user.  Once you are familiar and comfortable with the SpamJadoo concepts and how a user will make use of SpamJadoo then you are ready to get started as a Domain Admin.  Good luck and welcome to the SpamJadoo family. 

Preparing To Use SpamJadoo

As a Domain Admin you will be working with a SpamJadoo server that is already setup.  We will not be discussing how to setup a SpamJadoo server in this section.  That is covered in the Server Admin documentation.  We will be looking at tasks from a Domain Admin perspective.

You will be able to administer one or more domains.  Your Server Admin is in control of what domains you have authority over.  As a Domain Admin you have the authority to make other users Domain Admins as well.  Here are the various tasks that you will need to perform as you start administering your SpamJadoo enabled domains.

Let's take a moment and look at the various steps needed to get users up and running under SpamJadoo protection.

Edit the Domain Settings

One of your task will be to setup and monitor how the SpamJadoo will function for each domain you administer.  Unless you are also the Titan Key Server Admin you will not be adding Domains directly.  So you will start out by reviewing and making needed modifications to the default settings provided by the Server Admin when your domain(s) were setup.

The important task here will be to make sure each message to be used in the Challenge / Response system says what you want it to say.  When you edit the domain settings you can edit each one of the various messages used in the C/R system.

You will also want to make sure that the SMTP and POP3 IP addresses are pointing to the correct servers for this domain.  It is your job to verify these settings and to make changes as needed once the system is up and running.

Adding and Deleting SpamJadoo Users

It is real easy to add a new user to the SpamJadoo Users database.  You just follow a template that walks you through entering all of the required information.  There are also options for viewing all the domain users or ways to narrow your scope to a particular users or group of users.  Also, you will be expected to delete users from time to time as needed.

Adding Entries to the Domain Wide Whitelist

As Domain Admin you will be expected to make additions and changes to the Domain Wide Whitelist.  This is an important task since your Domain Wide Whitelist entries take priorty over individual users whitelist settings.  This allows you to make sure you control key important domain specific emails such as billing notices, planned maintenance, etc.

Adding Entries to the Domain Wide Spammers List

You are also responsible for monitoring the Domain Wide Spammers list.  This will be an important and helpful way to take some of the burden off of your local users.  You can pre-load known SPAMMERS into the Domain Wide Spammers list and save time for your local users.  Your Domain entries into this database take priority over the individual users settings.

Verifying the Challenge / Response System

You will need to make sure the Challenge / Response system is up and running properly.  To do this you will need to test it from a users perspective.  You need to review all of the Domain Settings for this system so you know what to expect.  If your testing of the C/R system doesn't return the expected messages that a look at your settings again. 

Normally, the only problems in this area is making sure the right web page gets served up at the proper time.  For more information about the messages stored for the Challenge Response system take a look at the Domain Settings Help Document for more specific information on adding and deleting users.

Review the Domain Logs

The Domain logs will help you quickly spot any problems your users might be having with SpamJadoo. You will need to understand how to access those logs, search through and find specific information within the logs, and finally how to read the log information.
